About as

The Batory Hotel was built by Józef Szalay in 1874. It was one of the first houses in Szczawnica to be heated by stoves.

In 1909, the famous Polish historical writer Henryk Sienkiewicz stayed at the Batory Hotel during his last visit to the spa.

His first visit to Szczawnica had been recorded in 1868 when he was 22 years old. In 1879, he stayed in Szczawnica for the second time; at that time he was already a renowned journalist and writer. "Gazeta Lwowska", when announcing Sienkiewicz's lectures in Szczawnica (on August 2) and in Krynica (on August 15) called him "a writer of exceptional talent."

The third and the last visit of Sienkiewicz to the Szczawnica spa was recorded in 1909, when, being a very famous writer, he stayed at the Batory Villa with his daughter.

The Batory has served a representative function in the spa for many years. Here have stayed various VIPs who came to partake of mineral waters: members of the regional Galicja Parliament, representatives of governmental delegations, government ministers etc.
